Folkestone Nepalese Community (FNC) provides accessible education and skills programmes for adults and families, with a strong focus on English, maths and digital skills. Working in partnership with Kent Adult Education, NUYU Academy, and other education providers, we host weekly classes, monthly short courses, and nationally recognised exams at the Folkestone Nepalese Community Centre (FNC Centre).
Our aim is to help community members build confidence, gain qualifications, and progress into further learning, volunteering and employment.
Weekly Classes with Kent Adult Education
FNC is a delivery hub for Kent Adult Education (KAE) Response Programmes. These courses run during term-time and appear in our Weekly Activity Timetable and Monthly Events listings. Classes are taught by qualified KAE tutors and take place in our classrooms and IT suite at the FNC Centre.
English & ESOL – Everyday Communication

Example: English Level 1 class
We offer English and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes to help adults improve speaking, listening, reading and writing in a friendly, supportive setting.
Beginner and intermediate ESOL groups
English Level 1 preparation for Functional Skills exams
Support with letters, forms, online applications and health information
Extra help for learners nervous about returning to education
Our staff support learners with registration, assessments and exam preparation when English Level 1 tests are offered.
Maths Functional Skills & Everyday Numbers

Our maths programmes give adults a second chance to build confidence with numbers in a relaxed environment.

IT Beginners & Digital Skills

Example: IT Beginner class at FNC Centre
Digital skills are essential for everyday life – from booking GP appointments to applying for work. FNC and KAE run IT Beginners and digital skills classes for adults new to computers, tablets or smartphones.
Basic computer skills: mouse, keyboard and desktop
Introduction to email, online forms and internet safety
Using online public services and health websites
Confidence-building for independent digital use
Digital & Language Inclusion Classes (FNC-Delivered)
Since 2021, FNC has been running dedicated Digital Classes to support adults who need help with everyday computer and smartphone skills. These sessions take place every Tuesday and Saturday at the FNC Centre.
We also deliver a separate Digital and Language Inclusion Instructor course on Thursdays, helping learners build both digital confidence and English language skills in a friendly, community environment.
These classes are delivered directly by FNC and are separate from our Kent Adult Education programme. They offer an accessible pathway for learners who prefer to study in a familiar setting, with one-to-one help available when needed.
NUYU Academy – Multiply Numbers Project
Alongside Kent Adult Education, FNC works with NUYU Academy to deliver the Multiply Course – NCFE Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics. This programme runs from September 2023 to March 2025, with teaching delivered at the FNC Centre.
NCFE Entry Level 3 Maths – Community-Based Learning

Course: NCFE Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics
The Multiply Project supports adults who did not gain a maths qualification at school to build confidence and work towards an accredited NCFE Entry Level 3 exam.

Monthly Short Courses & One-Day Training
In addition to weekly classes, FNC’s monthly events include a range of short courses and one-day training sessions, often delivered with Kent Adult Education and specialist partners. These opportunities appear in our monthly calendar and reports.

These short courses give learners the chance to explore new subjects, build confidence, and progress into longer English, maths or IT programmes.
Exams & Learning Achievements at FNC Centre
Education at the FNC Centre is not just about attending classes – many learners progress to sitting English and Maths exams at Entry Level and Level 1, with numerous students successfully achieving Level 1 qualifications. These exam days are recorded in our Monthly Events listings and celebrated as key community achievements.

Learners undertake initial assessments and, when ready, progress to formal exams arranged through Kent Adult Education or NUYU Academy.

FNC plays a key role in reducing barriers by helping with enrolment, exam forms, ID checks and providing a supportive environment before, during and after exams.
Level 3 Teacher Training – Education & Training Award

Course: Level 3 Award in Education & Training (AET) – Skills for Life
Period: September 2023 – March 2025
As learners progress, some choose to advance into Level 3 Teacher Training, delivered at the FNC Centre. This programme helps adults develop the skills and confidence to support education and community learning themselves. Assessment achievements are recorded and celebrated through FNC’s project updates and monthly events.
